The seventh edition of the Stouh Beirut Telethon, hosted by journalist Dalia Dagher, successfully concluded on December 23, 2019, raising 600 million Lebanese pounds to support more than twelve families and individuals who were struggling with severe health and social challenges. The eight-hour live broadcast on OTV Lebanon celebrated the power of generosity, compassion, and resilience in Lebanon.
Dagher opened the telethon by invoking Saint Rita’s intercession, expressing her commitment not to abandon families in need, and praying for a true Christmas reflected in the hearts of both givers and recipients. Tracking donations with emotion, she witnessed a mix of tears of sorrow and joy as viewers and donors came together to meet the goal.
Father Maroun Elias Gharios blessed the event, saying:
That year, audience engagement was remarkable. OTV studios became a hive of activity, fielding calls from politicians, media personalities, artists, and celebrities who worked tirelessly to secure donations. Although the funds accumulated more slowly than in previous years, the generosity and spirit of humanity remained extraordinary. Children donated from their savings, families gave what little they could, and some contributed from their last resources showing that Lebanon’s economic challenges united rather than divided its people.
In addition to monetary donations, many contributors provided in-kind support, including home furniture, food supplies, fifty wheelchairs for people with disabilities from the Lebanese diaspora in Germany, physiotherapy sessions, monthly salaries, dental care, haircuts, sports equipment, gifts, and handbags. Minister of Health Jamil Jabbak also covered the cost of treatment for a patient who had lost a limb to diabetes, providing her with a prosthetic.
The Lebanese diaspora actively participated, alongside donors from other Arab countries and even an Ethiopian worker, reflecting calls for the telethon to expand as a humanitarian initiative across the Arab world.
In a special collaboration, Télé Liban broadcast the telethon live, represented in OTV studios by journalist Nada Saliba. Minister of Information Jamal Jarrah praised Dagher for organizing this annual humanitarian event despite the country’s challenging circumstances.
Throughout the broadcast, many prominent figures supported the telethon, including Father Hani Tawk, Dr. Antoine Malouf, Minister of Social Affairs Richard Qayoumjian, Minister of Displaced Ghassan Attallah, former Deputy Prime Minister Ghassan Hasbani, Inspector General Judge George Atiyeh, poet Nizar Francis, MPs Neemat Frem, Roger Azar, George Okais, Elias Hankash, Mario Aoun, Eddie Maalouf, and numerous media personalities, artists, and athletes. Christmas carols were performed in the studio by Marc Raidi and Joseph Issa, adding a festive touch to the broadcast.
The Stouh Beirut Telethon 2019 once again demonstrated the power of Lebanese generosity, solidarity, and humanity, bringing smiles and renewed hope to families in need. The organizing team extended heartfelt thanks to all contributors and wished everyone a Merry Christmas and a year filled with love, humanity, and goodwill.
